There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that contains many conveniences aside from the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
